Primetime Pick: SHARKNADO 3: OH HELL NO!

Tonight that crazy phenomenon that is Syfy’s Sharknado is back for a third installment, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, and it’s crazier than ever! This time around, Fin Sheperd (Ian Ziering) is in D.C. accepting an award for all of his brave efforts in NYC when another, even more powerful Sharknado hits the white house. The storm begins to make its way down the entire “Feast Coast”, and so Fin charges through the wreckage towards Orlando where wife April (Tara Reid), is pregnant and due any day. Aiding Fin in his journey is old friend Nova (Cassie Scerbo) and her partner Lucas (Frankie Muniz).

This third installment is bigger than ever—the list of cameos and guest stars is literally pages long. However, two of the biggest are Bo Derek, who plays April’s mother May, and David Hasselhoff, who plays Fin’s father Gilbert (some pretty fun, creative names there!). While I probably enjoyed The Second One a little more, Oh Hell No! still has a lot of really fun, laugh-out-loud moments and an absolutely insane final act that can’t be missed! I found the overwhelming number of cameos a bit too distracting—at times I found myself thinking “hey it’s that guy” or “who is that? I know I recognize her” instead of paying attention to what was going on in the movie.

One of the fun parts of watching these Sharknado films is the communal experience of Twitter. I highly recommend watching the film live tonight and following along with the reactions and commentary from the Twitter community. Syfy also has their Syfy Sync app that will provide you with interesting trivia and polls throughout the movie. And if you have the Philips Hue light bulbs, the Syfy Sync app will synchronize your lights with the film. I watched my screener of the film using the app and it was really cool—it added a whole new dimension to the film-watching experience by making the on-screen storms, speeding cop cars and shark attacks come to life in my living room!

We had the opportunity to speak with the Sharknado 3 cast an creators at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. You can find those videos here.
