San Diego Comic-Con 2015 – Day 4 – Sunday

Aug 04, 2015 Posted by in Features | Comments

Sunday was the final day of Comic-Con and I had a very light schedule planned—just two FX press rooms.

(I have been creating separate posts with videos from each room, and have linked those below, along with photos from the roundtables.)

My first press room of the day was for FX’s new comedy Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. The room was off to a slow start as all of the talent was sent through the press line before coming to the roundtables. But we had a lot of fun keeping ourselves entertained while waiting.

We got to speak with stars Robert Kelly (“Bam Bam”), John Ales (“Rehab”), Elizabeth Gillies (“Gigi”), Denis Leary (“Johnny Rock”) and Elaine Hendrix (“Ava”). However, we were running out of time by the end, and were told that we wouldn’t get to speak with John Corbett (“Flash”), so we all grabbed our cameras and huddled around his final table.

My second press room of the day was for FX’s vampire series The Strain, which was returning for its second season later that evening. This room was run extremely efficiently and we got to talk to everyone who was there—executive producers Carlton Cuse and Chad Hodge, and stars Miguel Gomez (“Augustin ‘Gus’ Elizalde”), Ruta Gedmintas (“Dutch Velders”), Corey Stoll (“Dr. Ephraim Goodweather”), Richard Sammel (“Thomas Eichorst”), Mía Maestro (“Dr. Nora Martinez”), Natalie Brown (“Kelly Goodweather”), Kevin Durand (“Vasiliy Fet”), Jonathan Hyde (“Eldritch Palmer”) and David Bradley (“Abraham Setrakian”).

I had no other scheduled press rooms, so I had been planning to check out the FX panels. However, I decided to head to the press room for NBC’s Heroes Reborn to see if any roundtable seats had opened up. While I was waiting, someone asked me if I had seen his backpack—this guy had to be Greg Grunberg’s son as he was a dead ringer for his father!

I was eventually seated and only missed two of the actors who made their way through the roundtables. We got to speak with cast members Jimmy Jean-Louis, Henry Zebrowski, Masi Oka, Dylan Bruce, Greg Grunberg, Jack Coleman , Robbie Kay, Danika Yarosh, Judi Shekoni and Ryan Guzman. We never got series creator Tim Kring at our table before he left, but he was nice enough to return to the room for us to take a few questions.

With my press rooms finished, I headed to Hall H to see if the FX panels were still going on, but they had already concluded. So I made one last trip into the convention center to see if by chance the Funko booth was still open/still had some inventory. However, the hall was closing and the line for the booth was already cut off. I didn’t buy anything, but I did get my photo taken with the giant Groot.

And I snapped a few final photos on my way out of the convention center and into the gaslamp area.

Then I headed to the Old Spaghetti Factory for our annual end-of-the-con get-together dinner. And, as usual, I had to eat and run as my Super Shuttle was scheduled to pick me up and take me to the airport for my red-eye home. It’s never a good feeling when Super Shuttle calls you at your expected pick-up time and says “no one wanted to take your ride”. They then followed this up with “someone is just leaving from the airport now to pick you up, and should be there in 20 minutes”. Whats the point of making a reservation if they can choose not to pick you up?!

I eventually got to the airport, and didn’t miss my flight, and so ended another year at SDCC the same way it began, with travel problems.

Despite my travel woes, it was a fun, entertaining weekend and I look forward to doing it all again next year!
