Vango to be Featured on Debut Episode of Syfy’s Bazillion Dollar Club

Leading Art Site and App to be Showcased on New Show Searching for the Next Great Idea; Behind-the-Scenes Drama of How a Start-up Achieves Success

San Francisco, CA, September 21, 2015 – Vango, the leading website and app for buying and selling art from over 5,000 independent artists, today announced that the company will be featured on the premiere episode of Syfy’s Bazillion Dollar Club.  Airing on September 22 at 10PM ET/9PM CT, the show follows Dave McClure, a drill sergeant who founded software accelerator 500 Startups, and Brady Forrest, the mind behind the hardware accelerator Highway1. The companies offer two of the world’s most aggressive accelerator programs that mentor startups leading up to the launch of their billion-dollar idea.

The episode will showcase how McClure and Forrest worked with Vango to help bring the site and app to a broader audience and secure funding to grow the company.  Viewers will see the real-life, behind the scenes drama of how Vango prepared to meet a group of investors, knowing that if this one meeting didn’t go well, the company may not secure the funds to continue.  In addition, the show gives a rarely seen view of how start-ups actually operate, including how they deal with money problems, clashing personalities and differences of opinions on how the company should operate.  All of these factors play out for the audience as Vango positions itself for growth, while trying to keep the company afloat.

Vango allows independent artists to sell their work directly to the public and provides an easy way for consumers to be exposed to new art, at great prices.  The Vango app delivers personalized art recommendations based on users’ tastes and preferences. In addition, the app offers a “visualization technology” that takes any piece of art available and allows the user to use their camera to virtually picture how it would look in their home or office.

Vango has also introduced a simplified pricing model that makes it simple to find art that you love at a price point you can afford. All Vango artists start by selling their work for either $250 or $500, and then unlock higher price points as they sell more pieces. Vango also recently launched Limited Edition Prints, priced starting at $25.

“Vango has already revolutionized the art industry with its innovative pricing model and visualization feature, and the help that we received from McClure and Forrest on Bazillion Dollar Club has enabled the company to grow at an even faster rate,” said Ethan Appleby, founder of Vango.  “The episode gives an exciting behind-the-scenes look into what happens as a start-up experiences rapid growth and what goes in to becoming a successful company in today’s competitive marketplace.”

“Marketplaces are not easy and art is a difficult space, but Vango has created an extremely sticky product and is backed by a passionate team,” said 500 Startups founder Dave McClure.  “Vango is well positioned for continued growth and success and the appearance on Bazillion Dollar Club will help expose the company to an even broader audience.”
