Tonight Syfy kicks off the new six-part unscripted series The Internet Ruined My Life. Social media can make the world feel much smaller and closer, but it is also a powerful and dangerous thing. A simple misunderstood or out-of-context tweet or post can kick off a wave of internet rage, harassment or even legal issues that could destroy your life. This series explores the real-life travails of people who have had their lives affected by these kinds of technological mishaps. These incidents include people whose lives have been threatened or ruined due to angry strangers and hashtag activists who seem to be looking for any reason to stir up an army of troublemakers, misunderstood slang that leads to legal issues, pranks that backfire, jilted exes who post private photos, and so on. The series explores the extreme measures the victims must resort to in order to clear their names, feel safe again and regain their lives.
