Late last night/early this morning, Netflix released its latest original film, Special Correspondents. The comedy, which was written and directed by Ricky Gervais (Derek, The Office), centers around struggling radio journalist Frank Bonneville (Eric Bana, Lone Survivor, Hulk) and his chief sound engineer Ian Finch (Gervais). Desperate for ratings, the pair hatches a plan to broadcast fake war reports “live from the front line in Ecuador,” but from the comfort of their own New York studio. However, they go too far when they fake their own kidnapping, which sends the US military on a search-and-rescue mission, as the entire country watches on with baited breath. Now the two men must sneak into Ecuador and make their situation look believable, in order to prevent being arrested for fraud. The film also stars Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel), America Ferrera (Superstore), Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Benjamin Bratt (24: Live Another Day), and Kevin Pollak (Angel from Hell)
