Tonight, FOX kicks off the new series Houdini & Doyle, a British/Canadian/American co-production inspired by the real-life friendship between illusionist Harry Houdini and author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The series takes place in 1900, where friends Harry Houdini (Michael Weston, House, Six Feet Under) and Dr. Arthur Conan Doyle (Stephen Mangan, Episodes) find themselves teaming up with Scotland Yard to help solve inexplicable crimes and supernatural-based cases. The pair has a bit of a Mulder/Scully type of dynamic—while Doyle is much more open to the supernatural and spiritual, Houdini is a skeptic who believes everything can be explained in the same manner as his illusions. This causes the pair to constantly butt heads on their cases and wager as to the outcome. Joining these amateur detectives on their cases is fresh-faced female police officer Constable Adelaide Stratton (Rebecca Liddiard)
