Tonight, TNT kicks off a double-episode premiere of the new series Will, which follows the early adventures of William Shakespeare (Laurie Davidson) as he tries to make his way as a playwright in 16th century London. As the series opens, Will leaves his wife and young children back home in the country to go to London to try to sell his plays. His wife is skeptical that anyone would want to buy his plays, but Will wants to see if there is a fortune to be made in his writings. The London theatre crowds seem to be getting bored with the same old tired tropes, and Will sees an opportunity to step in, but some don’t appreciate the competition. Will is used to the slower life of the country, and in the city he becomes a bit wide-eyed, finding himself the target of both thieves and temptations. This is also a dangerous place for him—the Protestants are torturing and killing the Catholics on sight, so Shakespeare must keep his religion a secret
