Primetime Picks… 9/28/17

Tonight, after being off the air for over 11 years, Will & Grace returns to NBC to kick off the show’s ninth season. I was a big fan of the series when it originally aired, and thought they actually did a great job of wrapping the series up in the finale. However, within the opening moments of tonight’s season premiere, the characters have a fun time quickly and concisely letting viewers know which things from the series finale are no longer canon. After that the show doesn’t feel like it has missed a beat in the decade it was off the air. Will (Erick McCormack) (Debra Messing) and Grace are still lonely roommates, Jack (Sean Hayes) still makes his fun entrances and inappropriate comments, and Karen (Megan Mullally) is still drunk, wealthy, and “working” as Grace’s assistant.

I checked out the first three episodes of the season, and the writers have done an excellent job at making this reboot feel not only the same as the original show, but have also brought it into the modern day, tackling many issues prevalent in today’s political climate. The cast hasn’t lost any of their chemistry, and the jokes and double-entendres flow rapidly. Fans of the original series will certainly be pleased to welcome this show back into their lives!

In tonight’s premiere, “11 Years Later”, Will and Grace both falter when their political beliefs are put to the test; and Jack and Karen help them hide their secret shame from each other, but the truth finally comes out.

NBC’s Superstore has an amazing ensemble of a cast, and I’m really excited to see them all together again for tonight’s third season premiere. When the series last left off, the Cloud 9 employees were trapped inside the store during a tornado. Glenn had to choose 6 employees to fire, and he was announcing his decision just as the tornado siren went off—so we’ll have to wait until tonight to see who will be let go. Meanwhile, as much as they tried to deny it, Garrett and Dina finally admitted their feelings for one another. And in the biggest moment, when the tornado tore the roof off the store, Amy and Jonah kissed!

Where will we be when tonight’s new season begins? The store was in ruins and will need some time to repair and rebuild, so what does that mean for our favorite Cloud 9 employees? Will any of them actually be laid off, or did the storm end up saving their jobs? Will Amy really leave her husband for Jonah, or will she just use the danger of the situation as an excuse for the kiss, and try to just remain work friends? This show has me laughing out loud every episode, and I am really looking forward to tonight’s premiere!

In tonight’s premiere, “Grand Re-Opening”, the Cloud 9 employees rush to finish re-building the store in time for its grand re-opening. At the same time, Amy and Jonah confront their awkward kiss; Glenn discovers something about himself; and Garrett avoids Jonah. In other events, Mateo worries about the voicemail he left on Jeff’s phone; and Dina meets her match.

Tonight I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Place, Gotham, The Orville, Nathan for You, and The Guest Book.
