Primetime Picks… 10/31/17

In addition to their never-ending list of original series, Netflix also creates some pretty entertaining original movies. A couple weeks ago they released the comedy horror film The Babysitter. The film centers around shy, lonely 12-year-old Cole (Judah Lewis, Game of Silence). He’s a bit of a wimp, and is always getting picked on. His parents (Leslie Bibb, American Housewife & Ken Marino, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later) spend a lot of nights away at hotels trying to fix their broken relationship. And so Cole is often left with babysitter Bee (Samara Weaving, Ash vs Evil Dead, Home and Away). Cole doesn’t mind too much because he has a crush on the attractive young woman. One night, while his parents are away, Cole decides to spy on Bee and her friends, to see what they get up to when he’s supposed to be asleep. But things quickly take a very dark, unexpected turn. The film also stars a bunch of other recognizable faces, including Robbie Amell (The X-Files, The Flash), Hana Mae Lee (Pitch Perfect films), Bella Thorne (Famous in Love, Scream: The TV Series), Emily Alyn Lind (Revenge), and Andrew Bachelor (Black Jesus).

I just checked this out last night and thoroughly enjoyed it, and thought it would make a great Halloween night movie recommendation. The film is directed by McG (Charlie’s Angels, This Means War, the pilots of Chuck & Lethal Weapon), and has this great blend of horror and humor. It is an entertaining roller-coaster of a ride that pokes fun at a lot of horror movie cliches while also executing a lot of the same tropes itself. While I don’t get phased by it, I wanted to give a warning for those who don’t like the sight of blood—there is quite a bit of ridiculous, over-the-top gore.

Tonight I’ll be watching/recording The Middle, Fresh Off the Boat, blackish, The Mayor, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, This Is Us, The Flash, American Horror Story: Cult, and Chrisley Knows Best.

For additional suggestions on what to check out tonight, including Major Crimes & NCIS: New Orleans, check out the If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/31/17 post at TVisMyPacifier.com.
