Tonight Showtime kicks off the 6-part BBC comedy/thriller Ill Behaviour. Joel’s (Chris Geere, You’re the Worst) wife of 10 years has just divorced him, but his best friends Charlie (Tom Riley, DaVinci’s Demons) and Tess (Jessica Regan, Doctors) aren’t really that upset to see Steph go as they never really liked her. While Joel wants to sulk and throw away his settlement money, his friends push him to get back into the dating world, and set him up with American expat Nadia (Lizzy Caplan, Masters of Sex), an oncologist who also happens to be a raging alcoholic. When Charlie announces that he’s been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and that he’s abandoning chemotherapy in favor of more natural treatments, this causes tension and division among the friends. And Joel starts going to extreme measures to try to save his friend.

The series is written by Sam Bain (Peep Show) and directed by Steve Bendelack (Friday Night Dinner). While I wasn’t laughing out loud at tonight’s premiere, it did have some humorous moments. By the end of the episode, the writers have set up an interesting turn of events, which could lead to a lot more comedy. I have enjoyed this cast’s previous work, and look forward to learning more about these characters and seeing how the story progresses.

In tonight’s premiere, “Episode 1”, following his divorce, Joel reunites with his best friends from college; Charlie sets Joel up with Nadia.

Tonight I’ll also be watching/recording The Good Doctor, Man With a Plan, Superior Donuts, Lucifer, The Gifted, and Supergirl.
