Primetime Picks… 12/12/17

Tonight is the one-hour fall finale of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Last week was the show’s 99th episode, and most of the precinct flew to L.A. for the funeral of the former chief. While they were there, Holt learned he was in the running to become the next Chief Commissioner of the NYPD, but he would need to be back in New York early Monday morning for his interview. On the way to the airport, Holt takes a sight-seeing excursion to the Nakatomi Plaza so that Jake can live out his Die Hard fantasies, but this causes the group to miss their return flight. So they embarked on a Planes, Trains and Automobiles style adventure to try to get back to NYC in time for Holt’s interview. Among other things, this involved an exploding RV, a visit with some estranged members of the Boyle family, and a cargo plane. The whole trip, Amy tried to prove that she could be laid back, but it wasn’t until she gave up this facade and went into extreme-planning mode, that she was able to save the day. Meanwhile, Terry was upset about losing his first-class flight and was obsessed with the single mint he was able to steal from the first class lounge. And Rosa revealed to Charles that she was bisexual and currently dating a woman.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine always makes me laugh, but no matter how wacky things get, the writers still manage to add a little bit of ongoing story and character development to each episode. Last week, we saw that the Captain was trying to sabotage his own interview for fear of being forced to compromise his new position due to the deal he had made to get Jake and Rosa out of prison. Amy tried to fight against her over-organized nature, but realized that’s what she’s good at, and Jake loves that about her. Plus, things took an interesting turn for Rosa’s personal life.

In tonight’s first episode, “Game Night”, Rosa begs Jake to help her break some big news to her parents, but her plan is thrown off when they wrongly assume the two are dating.

Then, in “The Favor”, Seamus Murphy returns to redeem the favor Holt owes him, and the precinct searches for a loophole that will allow Holt to uphold his end of the bargain without breaking the law.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording The Middle, Fresh Off the Boat, blackish, The Mayor, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Chrisley Knows Best.
