Primetime Picks… 2/7/18

Feb 07, 2018 Posted by in Features | Comments

Tonight CBS kicks off the first-ever Big Brother: Celebrity Edition, a compressed version of the popular reality competition series that will find 11 celebrities competing to stay in a house as cameras watch them 24/7. Of course, you’re not going to get the A-list stars to sign up for something like this, so the “celebrities” competing to be the first Celebrity Big Brother champ include Ariadna Gutiérrez (The incorrectly-crowned Miss Universe 2015), Brandi Lynn Glanville (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), MMA fighter Chuck Liddell, actor/singer James Maslow (Big Time Rush), actress Keshia Knight Pulliam (The Cosby Show), Tony award winner Marissa Jaret Winokur (Hairspray), singer Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray) former NBA player Metta World Peace, former Trump aide Omarosa (The Apprentice), E!/The Tonight Show correspondent Ross Mathews, and actress/poker pro Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie).

While this is the first time there will be a Celebrity Big Brother in the U.S., the U.K. has been doing this special format for over a decade—I even checked out a season a while back, which happened to have Shannon Elizabeth’s American Pie co-star Tara Reid as one of the contestants, so things have come full circle for me! Even though this group of contestants includes many washed up celebrities, they really aren’t that different from a normal season where there are often several contestants just looking for their 15 minutes of fame. I look forward to seeing the new house, and what kind of extra luxuries/perks the celebrities are going to get. I’m also curious as to what new twists and competitions will be thrown at the celebrities. And I’m interested to see what kind of clashes and unexpected friendships form between the contestants—it should be interesting to have someone caustic like Omarosa back in a reality competition!

Julie Chen will be back as the host, and Pop TV will also be airing its usual Big Brother After Dark live feed blocks, so set your DVRs or check your listings if you want even more to watch!

In tonight’s premiere, the celebrities will move into the house.

Tonight I’ll also be watching/recording Queer Eye, Match Game, The Amazing Race, The Blacklist, The X-Files, 9-1-1, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, Schitt’s Creek, Let’s Get Physical, The Magicians, and Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block.
