Primetime Picks… 3/18/18

Tonight NBC premieres the new game show Genius Junior, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris. Twelve teams of three children between the ages of 8 to 12 compete in a series of of difficult questions that will test their memory skills and knowledge ranging from math to geography to spelling and more. Each episode finds two of the teams competing head-to-head in four rounds of questions. Each week’s winning team gets a chance to take on The Cortex, where they go through a rapid gauntlet of questions in an attempt to increase their team’s prize fund. Plus, the winning team moves on to compete again in the semi-finals.

It’s truly amazing the memory and knowledge that these young kids have—they answer some of these questions with what seems like superhuman speed. You can tell that even Neil Patrick Harris is in awe by the way he giggles after each response, before quickly moving on to ask the next question. Some of the banter gets a bit awkward at times, and NPH really lays on the bad dad jokes (which the audience and contestants, of course, find hysterical), but overall I found the show to be a lot of fun. It should make a nice program that the whole family can enjoy together.

In tonight’s premiere, “These Kids Know Something You Don’t Know”, Rodrigo, Ashley, and Shivani of The Dork Side go up against Sebastian, Michelle, and Aiden of Team on a Roll.

Tonight I’ll also be watching/recording Deception, Instinct, Timeless, Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Guy, The Last Man on Earth, The Walking Dead, and Counterpart.
