Today Netflix launches two new series, Sugar Rush and The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants. The streaming service has been doing a great job of offering a wide variety of original series to match the varied interests of all kinds of viewers. With Nailed It!—one of my favorite new Netflix shows—they’ve proven they can also make really entertaining cooking competition shows.

While Nailed It! pits amateur bakers against one another, the new series Sugar Rush features more-skilled competitors. Each episode finds four teams of bakers competing in three fast-paced rounds—cupcakes, confections, and cakes—as they race against the clock to try to take home the $10,000 prize. The series is hosted by Hunter March, and world-class pastry chefs Candace Nelson and Adriano Zumbo serve as the judges.

Also launching today is the small screen follow-up to the blockbuster Captain Underpants movie. The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants gives viewers all new adventures with best pals George Beard (Jay Gragnani) and Harold Hutchins (Ramone Hamilton), as they write their comic books, play practical jokes on cranky school principal, Mr. Krupp (Nat Faxon, “Ben and Kate,” “Married”), and face all new villains with Krup’s dimwitted superhero alterego Captain Underpants.

Each 22-minute episode of the series is broken into smaller chapters/stories, which make use of a fun mix of animation styles, similar to those used in the feature film. Whether it’s the comics drawn by the boys, regular 2D animation, puppets, live-action, or 3D animation, there’s always a visual treat. The series also features an amazing voice cast, including Sean Astin (“Lord of the Rings,” “Stranger Things”, “The Goonies”) as the series’ narrator, David Koechner (“Anchorman”), Tress MacNeille (“The Simpsons”, “Futurama”), and Mindy Sterling (“Austin Powers”).

I thoroughly enjoyed the feature film, and can’t wait to check out these new adventures!
