Tonight NBC kicks off the all new crafting competition series, Making It. Yes, you read that correctly, 8 contestants with a wide range of skills and preferred mediums will compete in a pair of crafting competitions each week. The first “faster-craft” round is a quick, timed challenge, while the second “master craft collection” is more extensive, requiring each maker to create two related items to form a collection. The winner of each round receives a patch, while the loser of the second challenge is sent packing. The final winner at the end of the competition will take home a $100K prize (plus all those nifty patches they already earned).

Keeping things fun a lively are hosts and former Parks and Rec co-stars Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman. These two have so much chemistry with one another! While Nick is an experienced woodworker, Amy is a self-proclaimed crafting novice. When they’re not having fun interviewing the contestants, Nick and Amy are usually goofing off on their own, which includes a weekly Pun-Off competition between the pair. I found myself constantly laughing or smiling throughout both episodes I checked out!

Judging the handmade creations are expert judges, Simon Doonan and Dayna Isom Johnson. They rate the crafts based on how they fit current trends, as well as level of skill and creativity involved. The stuff these people come up with is pretty amazing! This show is something the whole family can enjoy together. The format reminded me of The British Baking Show, except that the contestants are crafting in a large barn instead of baking in a large tent. The series is only 6 episodes long, so it’s not a huge time commitment, but after checking out the first two episodes, I know that I’m going to wish it had been longer once the season is over!

In tonight’s premiere, “Meet Your Makers”, the eight makers kick off the first round of competition with a faster craft challenge that reveals each maker’s secret beast and a master craft challenge that puts a contemporary twist on family heirlooms.

Tonight I’ll also be watching/recording Animal Kingdom, Younger, and Chrisley Knows Best.
