Primetime Picks… 9/27/18

Tonight NBC’s The Good Place returns for its third season. If you’ve never seen the show before, then stop everything and go back and watch the first two seasons immediately, because they’re so forking good! As the second season came to a close, only Eleanor (Kristen Bell, Veronica Mars) had passed the test given by the Judge. While the others had definitely been making progress towards being good, they failed under the pressure of their personalized tests. Michael (Ted Danson, Cheers) was convinced that the group could truly learn to be good people if they had the chance to do so on Earth. So he convinced the Judge to allow him to reverse their deaths to prove his theory. After a mysterious white-haired man saved her from being crushed by shopping carts, Eleanor did just that. She quit her soul-sucking job and joined a non-profit. Everything was going great for months, until Eleanor started to slide back into her old ways. And so Michael, watching from above, arranged for Eleanor to once again meet Chidi, hoping that this re-connection of strangers would help set her back on the right course.

As the new season opens, we pick right where we left off. The premiere fills in some of the gaps as to how the rest of our group had been saved from their untimely deaths, how they are taking advantage of their new leases on life, and how Michael has been manipulates things over the past months to help them prove they can become better people. This series is so well written, with each season mixing things up and taking viewers on a fun journey, with lots of unexpected twists and surprises. This season, our group is separated, don’t know one another, and don’t know anything about the Good or Bad place. How will they ultimately come together and meet one another again? Can they really become good people? And what is Shawn plotting—will he really allow Michael and the others to just escape The Bad Place? I can’t wait to see how this new season progresses, and what fun surprises lay ahead! Now that this show is back on TV, Everything is Great!

In tonight’s 1-hour premiere, “Everything Is Bonzer!”, Michael journeys to Earth to save Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani and Jason’s lives, creating a new timeline to test if they can become better people; when the gang’s initial attempts falter, Michael gives them a little nudge in the right direction.

Tonight I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, and Murphy Brown.
