Primetime Picks… 11/1/18

Last week, NBC’s The Good Place headed off in a new direction as the Soul Squad went on their first mission. Michael, Jason and Tahani headed to Florida to try to save Jason’s father…who turned out to be the “Donkey Doug” that Jason is always referring to! The group tried to get Doug to get his mechanic’s license and start on an honest career path. However, he and Pillboi had other plans—they had invented Double Trouble, a product that was half energy drink/half body spray. And now they were planning to rob three factories—one for the energy drink, one for the body spray, and one for the bottles—to realize their vision. The group decided to just call Donkey Doug a lost cause, and instead focused on saving Pillboi. They scared him straight by posing as secret astronaut spies from NASA (which, of course, was Jason’s idea).

Meanwhile, Chidi was afraid that if he stayed with Simone, he would be unable to lie to her, and would ultimately tell her the truth about what was going on, and thus damning her to the Bad Place. So Janet created a virtual reality machine that he could use to test every breakup scenario to find one that worked. Things didn’t quite go as smoothly as planned when Chidi had to do the break-up in reality, but he managed to get through it. Afterwards, the group headed to Budapest, where they planned to save Tahani’s sister, whose museum exhibit was about to open. However, Janet casually revealed that one of Eleanor’s parents was not technically, actually dead, and that Eleanor’s mother had in fact faked her own death. So Eleanor decided to head back to America to have a reckoning with her mom.

The Good Place is my go-to show on Thursday nights. The show is so creative, and I just love these characters—they always make me laugh. Lately the group seems to be splintering in half each week as they deal with two different situations at a time. No matter who the show seems to pair up, things always lead to humorous situations. This show is constantly reinventing itself, and I have no doubt that things will be shaken up once again by the end of the season, and speaking of shake-ups, I can’t wait to meet Eleanor’s mother, to see is she’s the reason Eleanor ended up on her path to the Bad Place.

In tonight’s episode, “A Fractured Inheritance”, Eleanor makes a startling discovery when she travels with Michael to Nevada to confront the mother she believed was dead; Tahani struggles to make amends with her sister.

Tonight I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Superstore, , Will & Grace, and I Feel Bad.
