Primetime Picks… 4/25/19

Tonight the second season of FOX’s The Orville comes to a close. On last week’s episode, Isaac was performing some time experiments when the ship came in contact with gravitational waves. This caused a younger Kelly from seven years earlier to appear on the ship—in her timeline, younger Kelly had just had her first date with Ed. Prior to this incident, Ed and the modern-day Kelly had discussed that it would be unprofessional to give their relationship another go while they worked together on The Orville. So Ed saw the arrival of the younger Kelly as an opportunity to give their relationship another try, and with his ex-wife’s blessing, he did so. When she first arrived, the younger Kelly was disappointed to see how her life had turned out—divorced, and not even the captain of her own ship. But as she spent time with Ed and the crew, she seemed to appreciate the life she would have in the future. Isaac eventually figured out a way to return Kelly back to her own time. However, when she arrived back home, Kelly decided to change her future, and these new plans don’t include a second date with Ed.

Assuming this younger Kelly was in fact the same one that’s on The Orville seven years later, and not just from a similar-but-alternate timeline, then her decision to forego her relationship with Ed and alter her future could have huge repercussions for those aboard The Orville. How will her decision affect the crew? In this new future, will Kelly now be the captain, and Ed her subordinate, or will the ramifications be even more drastic? Will it undo some of The Orville’s big accomplishments, the disasters they’ve averted, and the treaties they formed over the past two seasons? I can’t wait to see how things are shaken up in tonight’s finale.

In tonight’s season finale, “The Road Not Taken”, the crew must contend with the disastrous fallout from Kelly’s decision.

Tonight I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Life in Pieces, Superstore, A.P. Bio, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Tacoma FD.
