Tonight ABC will be airing the live 90-minute primetime special Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s ‘All in the Family’ and ‘The Jeffersons’. This tribute to two classic sitcoms will feature an all-star cast recreating an original episode of each series. The special will be hosted by the creator of the series, Norman Lear, and late night host Jimmy Kimmel, and the episodes will be directed by 10-time Emmy winner James Burrows.

The All in the Family cast includes Woody Harrelson as the cantankerous Archie Bunker and Marisa Tomei as his wife Edith. Ellie Kemper will play their daughter Gloria Stivic, and Ike Barinholtz will star as Gloria’s husband Meathead, Archie’s nemesis.

For The Jeffersons, Jamie Foxx and Wanda Sykes will take on the roles of George and Louise Jefferson, and Anthony Anderson will play Uncle Henry. Will Ferrell and Kerry Washington will appear as Louise’s friends Tom and Helen Willis, and Justina Machado will play housekeeper Florence Johnston.

Other actors who will appear in the episodes include Sean Hayes, Jackee Harry, Stephen Toblowsky, Amber Stevens West and Jovan Adepo.

It should be a fun night. I’m curious to see how relevant these shows will still feel today, and the live element should add a bit of excitement to the special. Following the 90-minute special will be a 30-minute look back at these two classic sitcoms.

Tonight I’ll also be watching/recording Whiskey Cavalier, The Amazing Race, What We Do in the Shadows, and Happy!.
