Primetime Picks… 5/29/19

Tonight another season of Archer kicks off on FXX. Each season, the show’s creators like to shake things up, setting things in a completely different time period and genre. Last year we jumped back to the 1930s for a Pacific Island adventure. For the show’s tenth season, Archer: 1999, the gang heads into “the future” for a space adventure. The year is 1999, and Archer is the co-captain of the spaceship Seamus, along with his short-tempered ex-wife Lana. Everyone is just waking up from stasis as the ship encounters a distress beacon. The crew pretty much resembles their usual selves, except for Mallory—who is a ball of energy that can change her shape into any form—and Pam—who is some sort of rock monster, and believes she’s the star of her own sitcom, complete with laugh track. Rounding out the crew are fighter pilot Cheryl/Carol, courtesan Ray, and synthetic human Algernop Krieger.

I checked out the first two episodes, and the show is just as fun and crazy as ever. I always enjoy seeing these familiar characters get thrown into an unfamiliar setting and a new genre. This tenth season is like Archer meets Thor: Ragnarok, which is just as great as it sounds! I look forward to seeing what else awaits the crew on this space adventure.

In tonight’s premiere, “Bort the Garj”, Archer and the crew of the Seamus wake up to the smell of shepherd’s pie and see a business opportunity in their new guest.

Tonight I’ll also be watching/recording The Amazing Race, The InBetween, What We Do in the Shadows, and Happy!.

For additional suggestions on what to check out tonight, including the season finale of Happy! and the season premiere of The Inbetween, check out the If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/29/19 post at TVisMyPacifier.com.
