Primetime Picks… 6/20/19

Jun 20, 2019 Posted by in Features | Comments

It seems like the broadcast networks are gung ho for game shows this summer—from revivals and returning primetime game shows, to a few brand new concepts. Tonight ABC is bringing viewers something they’ve never seen before…a competitive mini-golf series! However, Holey Moley isn’t just your run-of-the-windmill putt-putt, the course has been supersized and loaded with extreme obstacles, giving the show a bit of a Wipeout feel. Each episode begins with 12 contestants facing off in head-to-head, sudden-death matches. 6 of these contestants will then proceed to the second round where 3 more will be eliminated. The final 3 contestants will then take on the massive Mt. Holey Moley, where the winner will walk away with $25K and, the Golden Putter trophy, and the coveted plaid jacket!

Providing commentary on the matches are comedian/actor Rob Riggle (Modern Family, Angie Tribeca) and sports commentator Joe Tessitore. And providing coverage from the course with the players are correspondent Jeannie Mai (The Real, Home & Family) and resident golf pro Stephen Curry. I haven’t seen the series yet, but I’ve been excited to check it out ever since i first heard about the concept (I’m a big fan of mini-golf). From the ads, it looks like it should be a lot of fun—the contestants even appear to dress up and really embrace the zaniness of it all.

In tonight’s premiere, “Putt Up or Shut Up”, a special Grammy Award-winning celebrity guest makes an appearance on The Distractor hole in an attempt to distract the putters and break their focus.

Tonight I’ll also be watching/recording Family Food Fight, Reef Break, Life in Pieces, MasterChef, Spin the Wheel and iZombie.
