Primetime Picks… 10/7/19

ABC’s The Good Doctor has continued to be a show I look forward to each week. On last week’s episode, Shawn’s colleagues all told him about the best dating experiences, trying to convince Shaun to give dating another shot. But it was Claire’s suggestion of a much lower-pressure, less-formal chips and couch date that got Shaun to change his mind, and ask Carly out again, showing up at her lab with a bag of chips. The two seemed to be hitting it off, sitting on the floor having casual conversation. Meanwhile, Claire had given her bipolar mother/roommate Breeze a week to find a new place after she went off her meds. So Breeze managed to turn things around, and started actively looking for a new apartment. However, Claire eventually told her mother that she didn’t need to move out, so long as she continued to take her meds. Claire also had a win at work—Lim chose her over Morgan as the first of the third-years to lead her own surgery.

Everything seems to be going too well for Claire—it’s likely that the situation with her mother is going to take a turn for the worse, and that a relapse is imminent. How will this affect her ability to lead her very first surgery? Shaun and Carly seem perfect for one another, but it’s just a matter of time before another one of Shaun’s eccentricities causes another speed bump in their relationship. Carly is incredibly patient with him, due to her experience with an autistic family member, but will Shaun ever become too much for her?

In tonight’s episode, “Claire”, Dr. Claire Brown faces complications at home and work as she prepares to lead her first surgery; the staff must treat a fisherman’s injuries without damaging his prize catch.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording All Rise, Bluff City Law, 9-1-1, and Prodigal Son.
