Primetime Picks… 10/9/19

Tonight Riverdale returns to The CW to kick off its fourth season. It seems like every year the teens of Riverdale find themselves dealing with some crazy new over-the-top threat, from masked serial killers, to cults, to prison fight clubs, and more. And it looks like things are once again going to get dangerous this season. As the third season came to a close, we got a flash-forward to spring break. Archie, Betty, and Veronica had apparently done something horrible, and were vowing to one another that they would never speak of what they did again. Then they burned their clothes, as well as Jughead’s iconic beanie. However, Jughead was mysteriously not present…did something happen to him?!

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, I got the chance to talk about the series with the creator and some of the cast members. (You can watch my interview videos from the press room here.) They said that this season we will be going back to basics, with a renewed focus on the teens in school. So we’ll start at the beginning of the school season and work our way up to this mysterious even eluded to in last season’s finale.

However, before we get to that, there’s some sad news that the show needs to deal with—the untimely passing of star Luke Perry. Tonight’s season premiere will pay tribute to the beloved actor, as well as work his death into the story of the series and write Fred Andrews out of the show. It will likely be a very sad episode, but also a celebration of Luke Perry.

In tonight’s premiere, “Chapter Fifty-Eight: In Memoriam”, as the residents of Riverdale prepare for its upcoming Independence Day parade, Archie receives a phone call that will change the rest of his life forever.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording The Goldbergs, Schooled, Modern Family, Single Parents, Stumptown, Survivor, The Masked Singer, Almost Family, Nancy Drew, and American Horror Story: 1984.

For additional suggestions on what to check out tonight, including the series premiere of Nancy Drew, and new episodes of Stumptown and The Goldbergs, check out the If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/9/19 post at TVisMyPacifier.com.
