Primetime Picks… 10/15/19

Tonight USA Network kicks off an excellent new Tuesday night lineup, which starts with the second season premiere of The Purge. This season we follow Marcus Moore (Derek Luke, Rogue) and his wife Michelle (Rochelle Aytes, Hawaii Five-0) who find themselves targeted in a home invasion during Purge Night. Meanwhile, Ryan Grant (Max Martini, The Order) and his crew have spent the last year planning a massive bank heist, but things may not go as smoothly as they had hoped. Across town, clean cut frat boy Ben (Joel Allen, Never Goin’ Back) and his best friend (Matt Shively, The Real O’Neals) are out on a scavenger hunt, but the night is about to change one of them dramatically. And finally, loyal/longtime NFFA surveillance center employee Esme Carmona (Paola Nuñez, The Son) is looking for rule infractions on Purge Night when she witnesses something suspicious involving an old friend.

While the Purge films and the first season of the TV series have all concentrated on the moments leading up to Purge Night and the 12 hours of carnage that follows, this season the series is taking a different approach. The premiere covers the final two hours of Purge Night, introducing us to four seemingly-disparate stories. But over the course of the season we will learn how of these characters are interconnected as we follow their lives during the aftermath, and see what happens those other 364 days of the year in-between Purge Nights.

It looks like we are in for another exciting season, with lots of suspense and some thrilling mystery and intrigue as the series gives a look at a very different aspect of the Purge phenomenon. How do the victims make sense of what just happened, or why they or a loved one was targeted? How do they deal with the possibly horrific things they just did in order to survive? Who cleans up after all of mayhem, and how does the NFFA ensure that those who didn’t follow the (limited) rules during Purge Night pay for their crimes?

In tonight’s premiere, “This Is Not a Test”, four interconnected characters navigate the aftermath of the Purge over the ensuing year.

After the premiere of The Purge, stay tuned to USA Network for the exciting series premiere of the new Bourne-adjacent action series Treadstone. USA Network has an amazing must see two-hour block of TV lined up for Tuesdays! For more on that show, check out the link below.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording Bless This Mess, mixed-ish, black-ish, Emergence, This Is Us, The Resident, The Flash, and Arrow.
