New to Prime Video in January 2021

January brings new Amazon Original Movies and Series including Herself (2020), an intimate drama which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival; One Night in Miami… (2020), Regina King’s directorial debut and based on the stage play of the same name; the premiere of political drama series Tandav; season one of Flack, a British dramedy sharing Anna Paquin as an American PR executive living in London; new episodes of children’s show Jessy and Nessy; and The Great Escapists, a survival/engineering series featuring The Grand Tour’s Richard Hammond and Mythbusters’ Tory Belleci. Additionally, the final ten episodes of the hit drama series Vikings will be premiering first on Prime Video in the US, UK, Germany, Austria and Ireland on December 30. And if you need a refresher before the premiere, all the past Vikings seasons are currently available to Prime members on Prime Video.

Prime members can also enjoy movies and shows new to Prime Video including Like a Boss (2020), a comedy starring Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne; The Rhythm Section (2020), an action-packed thriller starring Blake Lively and Jude Law; Alone (2020), a zombie horror tale starring Tyler Posey and Donald Sutherland; and Chick Fight (2020), an action comedy starring Malin Akerman, Alec Baldwin and Bella Thorne. Along with films fit for a throwback movie night, like the John Woo directed Face/Off (1997) starring John Travolta and Nicholas Cage; the ensemble dramedy Soul Food (1997) starring Vanessa Williams, Vivica A. Fox and Nia Long; the 80s classic St. Elmo’s Fire (1985) starring Emilio Estevez and Rob Lowe; and the critically acclaimed Jim Carrey classic, The Truman Show (1998). Plus, shows new and old fit for a weekend binge, including all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother and the newest season of the British detective series Grantchester, with all previous seasons already included with Prime.

Since we are in the middle of the holiday season, we wanted to remind you of a few titles to get you in the holiday spirit! Highlighting a few of our favorites below, but you can find our full holiday collection on Prime Video. Also be sure to turn on the virtual fireplace to create a cozy, holiday environment wherever you may be.

Also don’t miss out on Week 16 of the NFL, when Prime Video will carry consecutive days of live NFL action. On December 25th Prime Video will stream the FOX and NFL Network Christmas Special between the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints at 4:30 p.m. ET, and on December 26th catch the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals game which is streaming exclusively on Prime Video and Twitch with kickoff at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Premiering First on Prime Video:

  • The final ten episodes of the hit drama series Vikings are premiering first on Prime Video in the US, UK, Germany, Austria and Ireland. Vikings, the critically acclaimed, Emmy Award winning series from creator and sole writer Michael Hirst (Academy Award® winning film Elizabeth and the Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominated series The Tudors) is a family saga that tells the remarkable tales of the lives and epic adventures of the Nordic raiders and explorers of the Dark Ages. Final ten episodes streaming December 30 with all previous seasons already included with Prime.

New Originals:

  • Herself (2020) follows single mother Sandra (Clare Dunne) who escapes her abusive partner with her two young children, only to find herself trapped in temporary accommodation. After months of struggling, she draws inspiration from one of her daughter’s bedtime stories and hits upon the idea of self-building an affordable home. She finds an architect who provides her with plans and is offered land by Peggy (Harriet Walter), a woman she cleans for. Aido (Conleth Hill), a building contractor, appears willing to help, too. But as her past rears its head in the form of Gary (Ian Lloyd Anderson), her possessive ex, and as bureaucrats fight back against her independent spirit, will Sandra be able to rebuild her life from the ground up?   • One incredible night in 1964, four icons — Cassius Clay (soon to be Muhammad Ali), Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown — gathered to celebrate one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. Directed by Regina King, One Night in Miami (2020) is a fictional account that looks at the struggles these men faced and the vital role they each played in the civil rights movement and cultural upheaval of the 1960s. Available in HDR. Streaming January 15.
  • Tandav is a story that happens in the capital city of the world’s largest democracy – DILLI (New Delhi), where it takes you inside the closed, chaotic doors of power & manipulation and uncover the darkest lanes of Indian politics. Streaming January 15
  • Bad Behavior. Great Publicists. Ever wonder what the real story is behind those celebrity gossip columns? Flack has all the dirt. Four quick-witted and relentless flackers led by Robyn, played by Academy Award Winner Anna Paquin, are tasked to make the best of their celebrity clients’ terrible decisions. But does their ability to clean up their client’s lives translate to their own? Streaming January 22
  • Jessy and Nessy is back with new episodes. The series follows Jessy, an innately curious little girl, and her best friend Nessy, a five-and-a-half-thousand-year-old purple sea monster. Jessy happens to see the world a little differently through her magical glasses called ‘Inspectacles.’ Together this unlikely duo explores life’s curiosities and reveal how all of these seemingly everyday curiosities have fantastical answers. Streaming January 22
  • Two men shipwrecked together on a desert island, The Great Escapists is the story of Richard Hammond (The Grand Tour) and Tory Belleci (Mythbusters), (arguably) two of pop-science TV’s greatest minds, with nothing but their smarts and their scrap shipwreck for survival. Can they invent themselves off the island? Or will they be castaway forever? This is the engineering challenge of their lives, will they succeed and become The Great Escapist. Streaming Early 2021

  • In Like a Boss (2020), best friends Mia and Mel (Tiffany Haddish & Rose Byrne) are running their own cosmetics company when a villainous beauty mogul (Salma Hayek) conspires to steal it. Mia and Mel must stick together and fight to take their company back. Streaming January 1
  • In The Silencing (2020), a reformed hunter (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and a sheriff (Annabelle Wallis) are caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse when they set out to track a killer who may have kidnapped the hunter’s daughter five years ago. Streaming January 8
  • Blake Lively and Jude Law star in The Rhythm Section (2020), an action-packed thriller from the producers of James Bond. After finding out her family’s death was not an accident, Stephanie (Blake Lively) transforms from victim to assassin, seeking revenge on those responsible. Streaming January 11
  • Alone (2020) is a zombie horror tale starring Tyler Posey, Donald Sutherland, and Summer Spiro. During a global pandemic, a man must battle swarming hordes of the undead to rescue his neighbor. Streaming January 18
  • In Chick Fight (2020), when Anna Wyncomb (Malin Akerman) is introduced to an underground, all-female fight club in order to turn the mess of her life around, she discovers she is much more personally connected to the history of the club than she could ever imagine. Streaming January 29

  • A Night at the Roxbury (1998) follows two dim-witted brothers (Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell) dream of owning their own dance club or at least getting into the coolest and most exclusive club in town, The Roxbury. Streaming January 1
  • Watch the bullets fly and the action explode as master action director John Woo detonates the screen in Face/Off (1997). John Travolta stars as FBI agent Sean Archer doing the unthinkable to stop the elusive terrorist Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage). Streaming January 1
  • In Soul Food (1997), Matriarch Mama Joe (Irma P. Hall) has held her family (Vanessa Williams, Vivica A. Fox, Nia Long) together for 40 years around a Sunday dinner of soul food. Streaming January 1
  • Emilio Estevez and Rob Lowe head a stellar ensemble cast in St. Elmo’s Fire (1985). Fresh from college, seven friends search for their places in the real world. Streaming January 1
  • The Truman Show (1998) follows Truman (Jim Carrey), who doesn’t realize that his quaint hometown is a giant studio set run by a visionary producer/director/creator (Ed Harris), that folks living and working there are Hollywood actors, that even his incessantly bubbly wife (Laura Linney) is a contract player. Streaming January 1

New Bingeable TV Shows to Prime:

  • Dexter: Seasons 1-8 follows blood spatter analyst Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), who when he is not out solving murders, he spends his time as a serial killer who eliminates those who do bad things. All episodes streaming January 1
  • How I Met Your Mother: Seasons 1-9 follows the adventures of Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor), who narrates the story of how he met the mother of his children. The story goes into a flashback and starts in 2005 with the 27-year-old Mosby living in New York City with his best friends, long-lasting couple Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel) and Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), womanizing playboy Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), and Canadian news reporter Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders). All episodes streaming January 19
  • Set in 1953, Grantchester: Seasons 1-5 follows Sidney Chamber (James Norton), a Cambridgeshire clergyman, who finds himself investigating a series of mysterious wrongdoings in his small village of Grantchester. He partners up with gruff, down-to-earth police inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green), whose methodical approach to police work complements Sidney’s intuitive techniques of getting information out of people.
